The Assam tea (INDIA) industry is one of the most enterprising tea-producing regions in the world. Tea estates in Assam collectively produce close to approx 700 million kg of tea every year and around 800 tea estates making the state of Assam the world's largest tea-growing region in the world.

CHARACTERISTICS OF ASSAM TEA

The black teas produced in this region are renowned world-over for their Strong, Bold, Brisk, Malty Flavors and dark liquor making it an ideal pick for all kind of BREAKFAST-TEA world over. It is ever- popular English Breakfast, Irish Breakfast and Scottish Breakfast tea blends are often made using Assam black tea.

Types of Assam Tea -

There are two kinds of teas Orthodox and CTC, both named after the manufacturing process used to create them.

The leaf used from the bush (Camelia Sinesis) is the same in both cases. Quality leaf is determined by the pedigree and health of the tea bush and by careful hand - plucking.

Assam Flushes -

Assam Tea is generally harvested Three to Four times in every year. The most popular are the First and Second Flush.

As per seasonal - First Flush , Second Flush And " Third Flush" . The leaves of the Assam tea bush are dark green and glossy and fairly wide. The bush produces delicate white blossoms.

ASSAM - First Flush

The first flush is essentially the leaves picked after the first rains in the spring, usually between March to April.

This is the first harvest after a lengthy gap of the autumnal harvest and days are singed and longer than the winters.

The teas are somewhat lighter and brisker compared to Assam second flush teas but this is more popular around the world, especially amongst those who enjoy a lighter tea with malty character typical of Assam teas.

The First Flush Usually Involves Picking Out Of Young Delicate Leaves That Offer The Brew A Light Green Color, Mild Astringency And A Floral Fragrance.

Assam Second Flush

ASSAM - Second Flush

The second flush teas in Assam gardens are harvested in late May and June.

The leaves are covered with fine-silvery hair at the bottom. This tea is also known as the tippy tea.

The second flush is followed by the summer flush (July-September) which happens post rains. The leaves are more mature by this time and the pungency and strength get reduced.

Assam Third Flush

The third flush usually between October and November is comparable to the first flush is taste and appearance

The last flush, harvested after the prolonged monsoon, is also known as the AUTUMN FLUSH.

The last is the autumnal flush which is the final harvest of the year with the leaves picked around October. The teas are delicate, with light liquor but have a distinguished taste.

ASSAM CTC -

Assam CTC ( Cut, Twist & Curl) Tea offers a rich, full-bodied strong cup and comes mainly in the granular form known as Assam CTC TEA.

The world's largest CTC Tea auction centre is located at Guwahati in the state of Assam. Basically, CTC is machine processed and fully oxidized (black) tea.

The second flush is followed by the summer flush (July-September) which happens post rains. The leaves are more mature by this time and the pungency and strength get reduced.

CTC tea tends to be less expensive and lesser quality than Orthodox tea. Tend to be blends of tealeaves harvested from more than one plantation during the first flush. This makes their flavor fairly consistent from one batch to another.

Assam tea is a common type of tea seen labeled "CTC". It steeps up a deep ruby-colored liquid with a rich malty flavor tending toward the bitter side.

It takes with milk well and you can usually add a bit of sugar for better sip.

Every sip of a cup would be enough to make you fall in love with this tea if you are fond of a strong tea.

The Assam CTC is world's famous tea for its strong liquor quality, slightly bitter flavor.
